A familiar artist to aficionados of the Museum of Geometric and MADI Art, Lorenzo Piemonti will open his own retrospective, The Colors of Piemonti, beginning October 26 and closing January 4, 2008. Mr. Piemonti will be at the museum to see his old friends and introduce Dallas to this collection.
Like
all artists, Piemonti has gone through many variations to reach his dedication
to sculpture in the MADI genre. The artist dabbled in figurative art in
his early years. While studying with concrete artists in Switzerland, he
designed stylized mannequins for fashion exhibitions for Courèges,
Balenciaga, Saint Laurent and Armani. He was born in Italy in 1935 where
he still resides. He has captured national and international attention for
his three dimensional progressions. His work is said to give visibility
to the disorder of the world by showing the startling harmony not of order,
but of beauty and its undulations. Sometimes he suggests harmony by using
monochromic colors which subdue the energy of the basic disorder of the
piece; sometimes he uses parallel lines which add consistency. Piemonti
himself says, I think of my work as a pure expression of spiritual
order
as a visualization of thoughts. Bold, out of the box, dimensional
and vividly colored . . . all characteristics of MADI art to which Piemonti
became dedicated after Salvador Presta carried MADI to Italy from Argentina
in the mid 20th century.
On the international scene, Piemonti has been shown solo and in group exhibitions
in France, Switzerland, Serbia, Hungry, Rumania, Spain, Italy and the United
States. Hes found in permanent collections in museums throughout the
world.
